Festival-Ready Hats: How to Turn Heads While You Dance

Hello my hat-loving free spirits!

Festival season is one of my favourite times of year. The music! The dancing! The unapologetic sparkle! And of course—the hats. There’s no better excuse to go big, go bold, and wear something gloriously extra on your head.

Whether you’re grooving in a muddy field or sipping cider under fairy lights, the right hat can take your outfit from “cute” to “who IS that style icon?” So, here’s my handy guide to festival-ready hats that are both head-turning and dance-floor-proof.

🪩 1. Light, Bright & Weather-Wise

Let’s be honest—British weather is as unpredictable as a toddler with a tambourine. Choose hats made from lightweight, breathable materials like straw, cotton, or raffia that keep you cool under the midday sun (or dry if the heavens open).

🧢 Bucket hats are having a real moment and lend themselves beautifully to metallics, sequins, or even floral trims.
👒 Wide brims give you sun protection and style points, especially when paired with sunglasses and a cheeky grin.

🎉 2. More Colour. More Personality. More You.

Festivals are the perfect time to wear what makes you feel good, even if it’s a little bonkers. Think feathers, pom-poms, patches, glitter, and ribbon. I’ve seen some of my customers rock hats in neon, leopard print, and even with fairy lights sewn in—delightful!

💡 Pat’s tip: Try adding clip-on accessories or safety-pinned embellishments to a plain hat. It’s customisable and won’t damage your brim.

💃 3. Can You Dance In It?

It’s all fun and feathers until your hat flies off mid-Boogie Wonderland. Make sure your hat stays put:

Use hat pins or a discreet elastic band (like the ones I use for fascinators)

Go for a snug fit—if it’s too loose, it’s off before the chorus kicks in

Or… embrace a tie-under-the-chin moment with ribbons or scarves. Whimsical and windproof.

🧳 4. Pack Smart

If you’re camping, your hat might take a squish or two. Choose styles that bounce back well or can be rolled up. I always say: a hat that can party and survive the bottom of a rucksack is worth its weight in sequins.

🌈 Ready to Stand Out?

I’ve got a few festival-ready hats in the studio right now—each one handmade, decorated, and guaranteed to make you feel like the main stage headliner. If you fancy something custom, pop me a message and we’ll whip up something fabulously you.

So go on—dust off your glitter, throw your hands in the air, and wear that hat like you were born to sparkle.
